Databases Accessible from Home

These databases include the following searchable article formats from magazines, newspapers and reference books:
FULL TEXT, ABSTRACTS, CITATIONS, TEXT+GRAPHICS and PAGE IMAGE

  • Click on the logo or link of the database that you would like to search.
  • Have your library card available! You must enter your library card number to access these databases.  Enter all 14 digits of your library card number. (no spaces or dashes).

This database is an index tool for locating biographical material on people from all time periods, geographical locations and fields of endeavor.  It also acts as an index to other indexes. 
Career Cruising is an interactive career reference guide.  Includes college information, occupational profiles, resume help and financial aid information.

Community Resource of Long Island

Community Resource Database of Long Island
The Community Resource Database of Long Island is a free, online directory of health, human service, and education agencies and programs on Long Island – services for children, teens, adults, families, and seniors in both Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Contemporary Authors
Provides complete biographical and bibliographical information and references on more than 120,000 U.S. and international authors.  All genres are covered.  From the print series: Contemporary Authors, Contemporary Authors New Revision Series.
Country Watch
provides up-to-date information and news on the countries of the world and public and private sector organizations with global operations and interests. 
EBSCOHost Web
Includes MasterFILE Premier, Business Source Premier, General Science Collection, Primary Search, Middle Search Plus, Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, EBSCO Animals, Magill On Literature, Health Source, Newspaper Source, Alt HealthWatch. Also Searchasaurus, TOPICsearch, EBSCOhost Espanol.

Gale Virtual Reference Library
Gale Virtual Reference Library is a database of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research. These reference materials once were accessible only in the library, but now you can access them online from the library or remotely 24/7.

Comprehensive resource for all aspects of the visual arts from prehistory to the present.  Access to 41,000+ articles on the art and culture of Asia,  Africa, Europe, the Americas and the Pacific, with links to images and further information in museum and other art-related Web sites. 
InfoTrac
Includes General Reference Center Gold, Business and Company Resource Center, General Business File ASAP, National Newspaper Index, Contemporary Authors, Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center, Consumer Reports.
Custom Newspapers - Gale Group
Search a collection of over 150 newspapers, both national and international.  Available via NOVEL, a project of the New York State Library federally funded by LSTA grants. 
New York State Newspapers - Gale Group
Search collection of New York newspapers from Binghamton, Buffalo, New York City, Rochester, Syracuse, Westchester County, including the New York Post.  Available via NOVEL, a project of the New York State Library federally funded by LSTA grants.
HeritageQuest Online is a database that will help you trace family records and local histories. This database includes primary source materials and genealogical and local history publications.
Kid's edition gives children easy access to magazines, reference books and newspaper articles.  Junior edition is designed for junior high and middle school students.

New Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians Online
Is an authority source on all aspects of music and is widely used throughout the academic and professional community and also by music lovers worldwide. 

NoveList Plus is a readers' advisory database that directs adults and teens to books they may enjoy based on authors, titles, or subjects they have already read and liked. It also provides full-text reviews and annotations for over 20,0000 titles.
Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center
Provides a detailed source for information on social issues. Access viewpoint articles, topic overviews, statistics, primary documents, links to web sites, and full-text magazine and newspaper articles. 
Proquest Direct
Includes over 1800 periodicals on a wide range of topics, including the arts, business, humanities, health, social issues, sciences.  Also ABI/Inform Global (over 1000 business periodicals and company information). Also full-text and graphics for The New York Times, Newsday, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal.
This database, with information about large and small United States companies, is searchable by name, executive name, ticker symbol, yellow page headings and geography. 
SIRS Researcher
Perfect for the student researcher -- this reference database contains thousands of full-text articles exploring social, scientific, health, historic, business, political and global issues.  Additional content databases include World Almanac excerpts, Maps of the World, Today's News and more.
